Building brighter futures through specialist education, training and care.
Every child learns best when they are seen, heard and understood. At Doncaster School for the Deaf, we create a language-rich, visual learning environment where deaf children can thrive – from their very first steps in education through to young adulthood.
We’re one of the few specialist schools for deaf children in the UK
As one of the country’s oldest schools for deaf children, we’re as proud of our 200 year history as we are of continuing to lead the way in deaf education.
Our teaching combines British Sign Language (BSL), spoken English and visual communication to meet every learner’s needs. With small class sizes, specialist staff, and a community that celebrates deaf identity, our pupils grow in confidence, communication and independence.
Teachers listen to me – and they can sign, so they understand me.

From early years…
Our education pathway starts in the early years, with growing numbers of families choosing our school for its strong early intervention and development support. We support children from age 4 – 19, including those with additional needs.
Our highly qualified team includes Teachers of the Deaf, Speech and Language Therapists, Audiologists, Occupational Therapists and Specialist Teaching Assistants, all working together to help every pupil reach their potential.
For those who live too far to travel daily, our residential home, Dickson House, offers a safe, nurturing environment that builds independence and confidence.
